FAQ

How much does CanTree cost to use?

It's free.

How do I use it?

See the Get Started section.

Do I need to install a program, or a plugin?

Nope. All you need is a capable web browser. This basically includes all browsers except Internet Explorer and Edge.

My trees always look young, or old?

Tweak the branches length, branches thickness, and amount of leaves relatively to the size of the tree. Young trees are slender and have fewer but larger leaves. Grown up trees are bulkier, have bunches of leaves, and have more inner shades.

How can I generate specific tree shapes, like palm trees?

You can't. Ultimately I'd like to offer much more flexibility. The current algorithm can generate an accepatble range of random shapes though.

Another tree generator? Aren't there better ones already?

As far as I know, few tree generators can output good looking 2d trees for free. CanTree is also as easy as it can be: no installation or plugin are required, and it is available on all platforms.

Why the name "CanTree"?

"Can" for canvas, the HTML 5 element that makes CanTree possible.

Can I copy CanTree, modify it, and redistribute it?

Yes, under the terms of the liberal MIT licence.
